This March, I dedicated my reading list to female authors in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. I pulled the books from my to-be-read pile, figured out the order I was going to read them, and got ready for a good month. But my immune system had other ideas. It decided to throw a hard cold at me in the middle of the month and, as I soon found out, I can’t focus on my reading at all when I’m sick. Words tend to blur and swim too much on the page. And then, of course, the weather’s been so out of sync with usual patterns that there’s been too many lethargic and lazy days than usual. I’ve not really felt like reading too much, sadly.
But I did manage to get a few things read:
I was going to do Gail Carriger’s series but found that I would need an entire month for them. So I think I’ll do that further down the line.
But beyond the sickness, I feel I got to have a good month of reading strong likeable female characters by some pretty awesome authors. I enjoyed my reading time a bit more this month.
I also liked having a month with a focused theme of my books. It helped carry on the feel of the books, especially in a series. I might decide to do a few other months like that further on down the road. Maybe with major holidays or something.
In random and interesting book news, I found out that there’s talk of making The Princess Brideinto a musical. I’m a little unsure of how I feel about this. I really loved the book and the movie is still one of my favorites. But some things might not translate well over into musicals. I’d like to hold off my full feelings until I’ve seen a bit more, but thought I’d share.
Anyway, that’s what March came out to be like. It was pretty good, all around. Can’t wait for April.
